The first session will allow you the time to talk through any issues which are of concern. Creating a space for understanding is needed as we begin to listen to your experience and address the issues which matter most to you.

The focus of the initial sessions is on developing a shared understanding of what is really the matter. It is important that this understanding makes sense to both you and I. This shared understanding is what allows for the psychotherapy to have a focus.

The duration of a therapy session is 50 minutes. Weekly sessions tend to be a useful frequency to support the psychological work and therapy. However, this frequency can be adjusted depending on the outcome of the initial appointment and assessment.

With a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP or psychiatrist you are eligible to a Medicare rebate of $141.85 per session. One is eligible to receive this rebate for up to 10 sessions in a calendar year.

You do not need a referral to make an appointment. However, if you obtain a referral from a GP or Psychiatrist, you will be able to claim a rebate through Medicare. Medicare provides a rebate for up to 10 sessions in a calendar year. The rebate is $141.85.

To obtain a referral you can request one from your general practitioner. Most commonly, the GP will provide a referral for six initial sessions. You are able to obtain another referral for four additional sessions once the initial six sessions have been used. Psychiatrists also can provide referrals to see a psychologist.

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please provide at least one business days’ notice in order to avoid a cancellation fee. Please note that there is no Medicare rebate available for cancelled sessions that have attracted a cancellation fee.
